About the book
Forget everything you’ve heard about health-conscious baking. That’s what Erin McKenna did after she learned she could no longer eat gluten or dairy. Working in the fashion industry at the time, Erin set out to re-create her favorite sweets in a way that would no longer wreak havoc on her body—and to make them taste far better than the other options for the food-sensitive. After experimenting, taste-testing, and using lots of kitchen creativity, Erin opened BabyCakes NYC, a bakery on the Lower East Side of Manhattan to debut her treats. BabyCakes became the sought-after destination for those with wheat allergies and other dietary restrictions, helping to propel the gluten-free and vegan baking movement into a new stratosphere. Soon enough, celebrities and dessert lovers of every kind, kids with allergies and their grateful parents, came to indulge freely in delectable muffins, teacakes, brownies, cookies, pies, cobblers, and cupcakes.
At last, Erin is sharing her delicious and healthful recipes with the world in her new book, BabyCakes: Vegan, Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York’s Most Talked-About Bakery. Some of her creations include:
· Cheny Cobbler · Banana Bread · Double Chocolate Chip Cookies · Strawberry Shortcake · Sugarplum Cookies · And BabyCakes’ famous Chocolate Cupcakes, which won the New York magazine award for Best Cupcake.
With so many delicious, gluten and sugar-free options, the recipes in BabyCakes mean that everyone can enjoy a sweet treat. With testimonials from fans such as Natalie Portman, Jason Schwartzman, and Mary-Louise Parker scattered throughout the book, you’ll soon realize that you’re not alone in your love for BabyCakes. And now you’ll be able to bake Erin’s delicious recipes in your own kitchen.
